Over a month later, and I'm still using Kagi. It's good.
"I find the vision of freely trading ideas, techniques, and code appealing—I am passionate myself about sharing information and ideas ... I want a world in which there is a strong population of craftsmen developers, who deeply care about the quality of their software, and who mentor each other to further pursue the limits of computing.
Unfortunately, throwing our code [at and to] large corporations—will not get us there... "
The Gullible Software Altruist
Just realized I typoed "entries" for "entires" 🤦
... if you can avoid it. Pico-8, GameMaker (though they're on some crappy subscription thing now), etc. are all OK for making smaller games. If you're going to invest many months or years of your life into some long-running project, maybe consider Unreal or Godot, instead.
Unity (former game engine company) has merged with an actual adware and malware distribution company. That's not an exaggeration. Fake Flash installers, was blacklisted by Microsoft's anti-malware tool, VirusTotal entires, that kind of thing.
Don't build your games on engines you don't have the source code to.
What was it like playing Angry Birds on an iPhone 3G? We do not know; Apple is no longer distributing signed receipts for that binary. To future historians—not just of computing, but of humanity—the current period will be a dark age.
(This wasn't what I was searching for. I'm using it as an example.)
I was searching for some technical thing on Google yesterday, and the first 10 results were all automated SEO spam sites reposting stuff from other sites and filling the page with garbage and nonsense. It's gotten worse and worse recently, and Google seems to have stopped caring.
Trying out Kagi now. It lets you add domains to block from the results.
(I know there are browser extensions to do this client-side for Google. It's not the same. Google results after first 15 are random junk.)
Uxn32 1.7 released. Minor version with some minor updates.
MarkovJunior is a probabilistic programming language where programs are combinations of rewrite rules and inference is performed via constraint propagation.
Normally, I don't post 100% negative stuff like this, but this did the rounds on Merveilles and I fucking hate software patents.
That "Bionic Reading" thing with the bold letters that went around the other day is turning out to be a patent & trademark scam run by nutjobs. (Also, it doesn't work.)
DuckDuckGo has completely removed and hidden my website -- completely, and including Ripcord -- from all search results. I only know about this because someone messaged me to say they were pointed to a site with malware instead of my real website when searching for Ripcord on DuckDuckGo.
I don't host malware or anything like that on my website. I am careful about what I have on it. I don't even host unsigned executables on it. 🥴
Bing also hides me, too, I guess.
Revel in the marvels of the universe. We are a collective of forward-thinking individuals who strive to better ourselves and our surroundings through constant creation. We express ourselves through music, art, games, and writing. We also put great value in play. A warm welcome to any like-minded people who feel these ideals resonate with them.
