While I'm very much not a fan of football I still think about this interview I heard ~5 years ago. The gist of what the interviewee said is that instead of rooting for the home team some people just keep saying how bad they are and seem happiest when their negative predictions come true.
While I don't quite agree with it in its original context (football in Hungary is a deep political rabbit hole), its core message really resonated with me.

It used to be that developers would ceremoniously publish releases of their code.

These days, many publish commits and leave users the opportunity to figure out which one to pick.

Looks like almost 10% of the packages #Guix provide are of the pick-your-commit variety, which brings us a new hairy yak!

My professor wants me to combine my solar web server efforts with also doing solar HAM radio stuff. I don't know anything about radio except that my dad and his friends grew up using it to evade the Burmese regime. Send me cool HAM radio stuff for a noob thanks.

Here's an opportunity to write some FOSS graphics history, everyone: "VGC Illustration" presents a technologically novel - and having tried it I will say *artistically superior* - approach to illustrative vector graphics. It's developed by a 1 (soon 2) person team that has serious industry and technical research credentials (Pixar, Siggraph) while at the same time being fervent open source lovers and actually developing their research as FOSS since years. Boris (the lead dev) has now fully dedicated his life mission to making VGC Illustration (and soon Animation) a sustainable open source business, and all he's asking for is pretty much peanuts considering the magnitude and scope this could soon have. If the kickstarter (which started only an hour ago and is already 10% funded!) does not work out, VGC is probably dead, so I think this is a lifetime opportunity for us to give support to establish a new powerful player and unique technological cornerstone in FOSS graphics. To conclude: Please, for the love of FOSS, throw money at this! :)

Sceners of the fediverse, there is now a internatinal demoscene room on Matrix. Can be bridged to other messengers on demand. #demoscene #matrix

Recovered on from a failed custom kernel install. UwU
pmOS is cool but now I can't help but think about how easy it is to install alternative kernels in # Guix (and GRUB I guess) and just boot an older one if the new one turns out to be borked.

a friend on ssb has a similar proposal he calls producer tokens. i want to use something similar as the basis for novo atlantis trade protocols. interfacing with scarcity currencies has been a headache, but i think something like taller that does delegated settlement can link coop credits to another currency for foreign trade could work. devil is in the details.

@TheGibson @feonixrift The "indexing outcry" was a peak example of this for me. It seemed to me that the misleading marketing was partly responsible for giving users the impression that they were on a system that *couldn't* be indexed. Once they it was a shock. The researchers voluntarily took it down. But bad actors can and *probably are* indexing the fediverse still.

I have a variant of a phrase I derived from the ocap community: "We don't pretend to be able to prevent what we cannot."

@a_breakin_glass @TheGibson @feonixrift OCaps don't pretend to be able to prevent *copying data* however. Once someone has data, it can always be copied.

Ocaps do provide more control in the first place over transmitted information and particularly *permitted behavior*. But the ocap community is strongly against the "prohibiting delegation myth", which is exactly what this is:

No system can prohibit delegation. Mathematically impossible. Design with that in mind.

Hypercritical and also talentless, a combination that i am sure you can guess wins me many friends.

my Day job is digital janitor for a big media company; I fix broken html5 games and bad accessibility. at night I make masks and dream of becoming a fairy and transcending reality
