I often hear stuff like "the user is assumed to be experienced and aware of the risks",
but why assume that and what does this excuse.
"we offer facilities for experienced users to do risky things if they explicitly wish" might offer a better experience for everybody (are there exceptions to this?)

maybe this whole argument falls apart when differing definitions of "risky" are taken into account. for whom and in what context, etc. but maybe the "explicitly wish" part can keep it together even then, but those "facilities" would have to be dang good, too
