In fact, every style of indentation reveals some underlying ideology about teeth: the points, the lines, parallels and disjunctions, the space between. Pearly whitespace reveals a colonizer mentality, while its absence is the mark of asceticism. Elastic tabstops presage how mammals will develop telescoping molars millions of years from now, to better dine on the overgrowth of humanity's final ruins

Microsoft's C++ standard library was indented by cultists of Yaldabaoth. Stare into the whitespace and you'll see the crooked teeth that smiled at the beginning of the universe

Parts of the machine were imaginary, although no less essential than the rest; to invalidate them would bring it to a halt as swiftly as saltwater on the circuitry. Thus was the device that could track gods and monsters.

vegan cooking experiments

Attending a neighborhood potluck for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Inspired by a curry dinner I made a couple months ago, I whipped up a vegan gravy using cremini mushrooms, coconut cream, coconut milk, fenugreek seed, ginger, paprika, onion, garlic and cornstarch. Turned out delicious if I do say so myself.

Hello new followers! Does anyone have contacts in ethnomusicology? Preferably folks who grew up among non-Western traditions, as there is no shortage of well-meaning Westerners who dabble in other traditions.

As chair of the MIDI 2.0 Pitch and Tuning subcommittee I'm looking for connections with practitioners of underrepresented musical traditions, to inform us as we lay the groundwork for a next-gen standard which isn't quite so piano-shaped.

The power to the little island I live on been out for 60 hours now. I'm testing the limits of my 400W solar array in this cloudy weather.

Thinking about building a small DIY HEPA filter for the RV in order to contend with a pet's fungus allergy. I wonder if there's a way to use a maintainable filter such that the charcoal and filter fabric could be laundered and reused.

Roguelike Celebration, an online festival for roguelike developers & friends, is TOMORROW! I've attended for the last 2-3 years and have been blown away by what a great job they do creating a social space in MUD format every year.

I am very far from my place of power so I oranged my bug with my cell phone's photo adjustor

After taking my first vacation all year (which was fun but not relaxing) I have been exhausted for two weeks straight. I might have done a burnout.

Back from my first real vacation this year (which was a bit too packed to be relaxing) and I'm left exhausted but contemplating things I'd like to make space for in my life.

I've got an intricate little Twine prototype of this 11-year-old storygame project I've never really fallen out of love with. Might revisit that.

Vattu, the award-winning anthropological fantasy epic , has just finished!

Do any of my Pacific Northwest pals have experience collecting impulse response recordings? (IE, capturing reverberations for reproduction by a computer.)

I happen to live quite close to one of the most acoustically interesting spaces in the hemisphere, the Dan Harpole Cistern, and want to learn more about the practice in case I get an opportunity to visit that old ruin.

It's nice to remember the original slogan of the internet

The cool thing that VR lets you do is exist within a video-game as a real character and not just be a person driving a proxy. This allows you to live out your wildest fantasy of being a semi-intangible agent who is trapped inside an invisible box. This strongly implies that in any given VR game you are actively being harassed by mimes which you are adamantly refusing to dignify with acknowledgment.

Does anyone in here happen to run Windows XP on the regular?

I have a bit of software I'm trying to keep backwards compatible, just a bit longer, but I haven't been able to test on XP for myself.

I might be overthinking this, since XP appears to account for exactly zero percent of my users these days.

From Ursula K. Le Guin:

“For we each of us deserve everything, every luxury that was ever piled in the tombs of the dead kings, and we each of us deserve nothing, not a mouthful of bread in hunger. Have we not eaten while another starved? Will you punish us for that? Will you reward us for the virtue of starving while others ate? No man earns punishment, no man earns reward. Free your mind of the idea of deserving, the idea of earning, and you will begin to be able to think.”

The voices I want to elevate in the electronic space have long since renounced it and unplugged, phonating in places where these exclusionary standards will not hear them. Propagating their culture in a medium which will not smother it with hurdles.

So here I am seeking them out with these same violent tools. Perhaps my work is a contradiction.

Revel in the marvels of the universe. We are a collective of forward-thinking individuals who strive to better ourselves and our surroundings through constant creation. We express ourselves through music, art, games, and writing. We also put great value in play. A warm welcome to any like-minded people who feel these ideals resonate with them.
