Yay! Just imported all my videos to from my two neglected YouTube channels, so now I have more videos on PeerTube than anywhere else.

All the videos are about learning to use & creative software, and by that I mean both art and dev creativity.

I really like PeerTube. Although still rough around the edges it just feels great to use. I think it has a super bright future.

@freedcreative owwwww thank you! I’ll definitely have to binge watch these as I’m trying to make the jump to libre creative software right now.

@mcpaccard Oh really? That's super cool!

I've been transitioning from mostly proprietary to almost completely libre over about a 3 year period. Very happy to help with any specific brick walls you run into. For example, the "Move a Cube" video on Godot game engine was for someone here on Mastodon.

@freedcreative always good to know about good alternatives to established platforms.

@freedcreative Good Morning all, please check out my new android Peertube client. The donations button doesn't work but pretty danged please with myself!

@ksirion Looks cool! Do you think you'll be putting it on F-Droid?

@freedcreative Dont even know what that is. Please elaborate. Also if you could hit the $1 donate button and see if it gives you the option to donate through Google store. Obviously don't donate if you don't want, my account just always gives a test dummy card because its my account. Thanks!

@freedcreative I will look into putting it on Fdroid. not a programmer by trade so I'll see how much extra work it will be to maintain and update both versions. Thanks for the feedback! (Ps Hope asking to test the donate button didn't come off as a weird passive agressive way to get money, I'll get a friend to test it for me if it did, thanks for trying out the app, I also have one for friendica, Librefriends, and will have another one for pixelfed (pixelfeed) coming out today.

@ksirion I ask because I'm using LineageOS to avoid Google so I use F-Droid instead of the play store. As such I can't help you test your app as yet.

@freedcreative np. It was pointed out by friendica developers that you can literally just use the "pin to home page" feature in your browser to do what i did. Luckily didn't use up a lot of time. This just comes with tutorials. What peertube instance are you on?

@freedcreative open up any page in your browser. Open the browser menu and click "add to home screen" and you essentially have an app of that page

@ksirion Oh, yeah I know about PWAs (I'm a web dev), I was asking what context you were talking about. What are you adding to a home page?

@freedcreative Lol Yeah I'm a C++, Java, and android programming guy who does it as a hobby, HTML, JavaScript and anything web based are greek to me. Microbiologist for my full time job. Turns out my gf(no programming experience) knew about PWAs and I didn't til after putting this app out, lol. There are ways to do things like create push notifications but I don't know javascript to dig into the code. Also apparently the weird APK style pings at least one spyware detector. Very embarrassing when you do this much work and there is already a function in existance.

@lutindiscret @freedcreative @harald @exodus Ok that's weird, i just invented this app using kodular. Which means im going to have to look into kodular and find out what kinds of trackers it may have

@lutindiscret @freedcreative @harald @exodus is a weird animal, built off MIT app inventor. Please check it out if you would. Its made to help nobodies make apps. Here is the original code I used and you can upload it to kodular and find out if its actually spyware. The listeners probably all turned on by not doing anything. This is a very abnormal APK. Please check it out and let me know if I'm actually spreading spyware without realizing it. I may have to abandon kodular.

@lutindiscret @freedcreative @harald @exodus Yeah I can't find any instance of being classified as spyware on a websearch. But it is a bizarre unique style APK so it may ping some spyware detectors.

@freedcreative Really nice videos! Subscribed from my peertube account.
@freedcreative @Kemenwe Tar-Sirion There's already two peertube clients at f-droid: P2Play and Thorium. There's absolutely room for more though!

@ademalsasa Cheers Ade!

BTW still planning to make your Kdenlive course suggestion. Just getting my time organised.

@freedcreative Awesome! Your tips and recommendations on FOSS stuff have been super helpful so far & it’s great to see prolific advocates move their stuff over from the big monopolies.

@rostiger Oh, that's great! 😀

Tbh I will still post on YT as well for now - tell me what you think about this line of thought:

I recently saw a video about a bike delivery co-op saying they were planning the undoing of big tech platforms by using their own tools against them. It made me think "embrace extend extinguish" can go both ways. It's been used against us, but we can flip things around, and use it those EEE powers for good.

If we break it down... 1/?

1. Embrace: You go to a community full of people you would like to be on board with you and you give them cool stuff that's genuinely useful stuff.

Flipped version: Free videos teaching libre software on YT.

2. Extend: For some of the cool stuff you say hey, but you gotta leave where you are and come over here for it.

Flipped version: Come to PeerTube / Mastodon / other more community friendly place for extra stuff.

3. Extend: When enough people have come to your place from the place where you first spoke to them, you no longer need that first place, and can "extinguish" it from your concerns.

Flipped version: When enough people are on PT instead of YT, or any comparable equivalent, as a community we can extniguish YT from our lives.

@rostiger Microsoft uses EEE as a way to lure people into a digital cage and restrict their freedom.

But could we not turn big tech's own strategy on its head and instead use it to give people a reason to leave the cage and restore their freedom?

@freedcreative Oh, for sure! It's not the strategy that is condemn-able, but how it is used. With enough patience and dedication, I'm sure more and more people will make the switch.

@freedcreative I think one of the major obstacles to get people to switch is one of the core selling points of the big tech companies: comfort. Everything is extremely easy and comfortable. Millions are spent on profiling and adaptive UX that it makes it really hard for libre software to compete.

@freedcreative That being said, open source software UI & UX has come a long way and it's going to get better the more support it gets. So yes, let's use that EEE power!

@rostiger Thanks for your thoughts! I wasn't sure if I was thinking in the right direction on the whole "turn the tables" thing, or if anything MS does should just be straight up avoided, so it helps. 🙂
