Oh it worked!
"#Linux is my creative work daily driver, on 95% #libre and #FOSS tools. A few years ago it was the opposite, I was on 95% proprietary tools. It is often said that you cannot be on Linux if you do #creative work for a living, but I have transitioned across the last few years and love it. With the advances in #librecreative software the workflows just keep getting better and better. This collection shows some snapshots of my setup and how I use it."
I wanted to try out using @GIMP@mastodon.at as I would Photoshop / Affinity Photo, so I figured following along with an image manipulation tutorial would be a good way to do it. I followed the pumpkin head video from Benny Productions (great channel) and I think it turned out pretty well!
There were no steps I couldn't find a way to recreate in Gimp - some replacements were a little slower, and some were an upgrade. Got pretty laggy, but still got the job done! #linux #libregraphics #foss #mastoart
Yes! DaVinci Resolve on #Manjaro #Linux, working flawlessly. Despite it being easier to install Manjaro fresh rather than switching to Nvidia with non-free drivers, after that it was effortless. It's now easier to install Resolve on Manjaro than on deb based as the AUR install just works out of the box.
Now I don't need a second Linux or Windows for Resolve work, I'm one major step towards leaving Windows behind, and no more leaving my daily driver just for video editing. Wanted this for ages!
Can anyone recommend a good FOSS personal budget application for #Linux?
Coming to accept I'm going to need to switch to Nvidia and closed drivers instead of AMD and open drivers if I want to get access to all the stable video editing options on Linux. *sniff* 😭
I'll miss my open drivers, but being on #Linux and on my distro of choice is the more important thing to me.
And one more thing to share today. If you're a #WordPress theme designer wanting to work on #Linux, here's how you can get your dev environment setup so you can edit theme files in xampp without being blocked by permissions requirements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fuo4wGjsj8I
Decided to try Lightworks on #Linux out of curiosity to thoroughly test all video editing options. I was hopeful given it provides a native linux binary, but it crashed four times in the half hour I tried to use it. :(
Holy wow, no matter how much time I spend on #KDE I keep finding new ways to customise it even further. I did not know until just now that you can download extra services to expand the functionality of Dolphin. What an incredible DE.
Thinking of spending a little time using #KDE #Neon #Linux for a while. I've been using KDE Manjaro for quite some time and it's fantastic, but a little variety and investigation is always a good thing.
Impression in the first five minutes is that Discover looks a lot nicer than last time I used it. Clean and clear.
