Monotropa uniflora - it grows white and can grow in darkness cause its a PARASITE and it uses fungus in the soil as a host to receive nutrients because it does not do photosynthesis on its own

Built a norns shield last night! Lots of fun to play with so far.

Lazy Saturday afternoon - doing a bit of work on spore: a manual for the mycelial arts.

This is part of a collaboration between Harmonic Mycology in Cape Town and the Kiez Pilz Kollektiv (KPK) in Berlin. More news to come in the weeks and months ahead.

Very excited to start my artist/technologist residency at IRL:

“IRL brings together art + tech to develop novel methods of facilitating community connection and momentum building that prioritize those experiencing the greatest risk of exclusion when technology becomes the only source of connection.”

Decentralization & It's Discontents - Sarah Friend

Are there any Fediverse instances out there for academics?

I have a friend who is a PhD candidate in experimental psychology. She's thinking about joining Twitter but I'd much rather invite her to the Fediverse.

Recommendations and boosts are welcome.

i hope my neighbours enjoy this album as much as i do, 'cause i must have played it at least 20 times this week ^_^

Cultivating Peace with Derek Haynes (aka The Crazy Botanist).

Derek shares his experiences as a Black botanist in the United States and talks about the healing and connective capacities of plants.

I really appreciated the fresh perspective in this podcast and enjoyed hearing Derek's story.

One improvement I'd like to make is to replace the local img paths with absolute URLs in the encoded content (description field). Right now they don't display when the feed is viewed in a reader.

Maybe there's another way?

Just finished writing a custom RSS generator for my website.

1. Scan article template directories; 2. Extract heading, pub date, URL and encoded content for each article; 3. Create a channel, add an item for each article and write to file.

Writing small utilities is so refreshing and I usually end up learning things that improve my other projects.

Feels like I have a better grasp of regex now too.

Today I learned…

Every #Juneteenth (June 19) from now on, #Bandcamp will be donating 100% of their share of sales to the #NAACP Legal Defense Fund (naacpldf.org/). They’re doing other things as well, but I figure this particular initiative would be of interest to the indie music fans of the #fediverse.

Lioconcha hieroglyphica, a mollusc with a shell that looks like it has an unknown language inscribed on it.

This is your friendly reminder to expose your mushrooms to sunlight before consuming them 🍄 ☀️

For the next Global Accessibility Awareness day, I hope that Mastodon, or @pinafore at least, has all images only show their Alt-Text and not the image, so at least for that day only, people will at least describe their images somewhat, or just write text. Maybe too drastic, I know. #a11y
