Pinned toot

Hello! My name is grgrdvrt, I leave in the east of France, in Nancy.

I work with code to make things, mostly images. I'm interested with how we use computers in general.

I learned interactive design during Flash's golden age. Now I mostly work with javascript but I like learning about other languages (lisps, rust, ...).
I like geometry & maths, algorithms, software architecture, design

It also reached HN's front page (first time for me!) news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2
The comments can be annoying there sometimes but for this I only had super nice and actually insightful messages!

I polished a bit my color palette experiment and published it on github: github.com/grgrdvrt/poulette

And I also uploaded a demo here: grgrdvrt.com/poulette-demo/
I'd be super interested to hear your feedback!

I'm happy with how this color tool is working. Now I need to make it work on tablet.

The part of I'm the least happy with is the color picker. Too classic, not very pleasant.

I started working on an experimental palette gui to fix that

@bfluzin toi qui a été dans les manifs où y'a des lacrymos et tout, t'as un truc pour les oignons ?

There is a lot of discussion around NFTs and art and there is something I don't understand:
All this seems to be about ownership. So it's a kind of contract. We've done ownership and contracts for thousands of years
Can someone explain to me what is new here and why it requires so much technology ?
(This is a genuine question devoid of judgment about the situation)

Fun fact: 90% of the interactions I have with other people happen in only my head

In 2016 I made myself a whiteboard application.
Its graphic design is extremely rough as I was only interested in ergonomics.
The buttons are big (I kept that in ), there are several shortcuts that can be triggered from a graphic tablet. Everything is a click away.
Despite all these efforts I still find it more convenient to use a pen and a notebook 😓

Funny thing, I designed the app with the app itself

In 2012 I made a "connect the dots" drawing application: grgrdvrt.com/d-o-t-s/

I even made a gallery: grgrdvrt.com/d-o-t-s/gallery.p (warning, people like to draw... how to say... anatomy and other inappropriate things)
Some people made incredible drawings

In 2011 when I was working at bigyouth.fr/ we made a website for the 60 years of the Bic Cristal pen
I spent a lot of time trying to make the lines similar to what you get with the pen

Another one from the same period (2006-2007)
Applications usually allow you to change the size of the brush. Here you can only change the canvas resolution

In hit book Maeda@media John Maeda talks about inverting the relationship between the creator and the support
Based on this idea I made an experiment where the surface rotates, the color and the size of the line change randomly.
It was in flash at the time, now I have files I can't open and a screenshot.

I don't remember when I made this one but it's definitly not recent.
You can draw segments with it. That's it.
I know I made one more sophisticated with a toolbar but unfortunately I lost it :(

Before making I made *a lot* of experiments around drawing+code

new hobby: go to same.energy/ and try to navigate from an image of the home to something stupid.
Like from a portrait of Dwayne Johnson, how many clicks does it take to find a photo of a banana ?

Sorry I forgot to add a description to the video, here it is:
I draw a bacteria on a ipad and then interact with the drawing. The points and lines avoid the pen.

The drawing is very simple and I'm almost sure that's not what a bacteria looks like. It's just for fun.

Last week I released my latest side project: an application to create animated and interactive drawings.

It's not really a tool, more a toy designed to have fun.
I'll share more about it in the coming days

Just discovered Dr.Geo drgeo.eu/ via Hacker News

I love this kind of interactive geometry apps. This one push things further with Smalltalk that allows programming new functionalities on the fly.
Awesome!
They even are on mastodon: @drgeo !
