Weight lifting, injury mention

When I talk about weight lifting at home, people usually imagine worst case accidents where I end up destroying the floor, furniture, or injuring myself in various semi-lethal ways.

Over two years, I only had to deal with minor pain for a few days due to my lack of experience. It's perfectly safe if you're not reckless and listen to your body.

But this morning, I badly hurt my little toe against the bathtub while moving from one exercise to another. Epic injury 😂

It's always the little bones. :)

Get to feeling better, and be careful with your feet!

Weight lifting, injury mention

@RussSharek Haha yeah, thanks! Hopefully it's mostly my nail that suffered, so while it looked spectacular at first, I have no issue with walking. I should be able to resume training tomorrow, at least for my upper body :)

@ice

Oh yeah, even mild toe injuries can look gruesome.

@RussSharek I should probably look into light weight lifting shoes for better security, since apparently it's a thing, but I feel more relaxed and in control without any, not to mention I like going barefoot at home. It certainly wouldn't have happened if I had shoes. I guess I enjoy living dangerously (to an extent, lol)

@ice

I train barefoot, though all my workouts are bodyweights...not always mine, which makes me doubly want for solid footing.

Weight lifting, injury mention

@RussSharek Haha yes, I never thought about bodyweight this way, but it makes sense :)

@ice

A small human makes a terrific barbell, provided they can be *very* still.

Weight lifting, injury mention

@RussSharek I'm sure they do. I bet this must teach you how to adopt the perfect posture to properly get your equipment back on the ground instead of dropping it like an idiot after a few reps.

@ice

The barbell in question does tend to complain if I drop them.

More importantly, training good form also leads to minimizing injury in general. I'd rather work slow to get something right than have it blow up in my face because I rushed getting the fundamentals down.

@RussSharek For some reason this reminds me of this quite peculiar and slightly less dangerous kind of workout: darebee.com/workouts/paws-work

@ice

That is adorable!

Weight lifting, injury mention

@RussSharek I never managed to do it with my cat, he just lies flat on his back with a very bored expression and only moves to display utter feline contempt regarding my somewhat athletic efforts. He's a master demotivator who's only interest is to get his belly stroked.

@ice

Aren't we all, some days.

Weight lifting, injury mention

@RussSharek Haha yeah, no doubt about this :)
