I've been having some freaky symptoms lately and I'm really scared. I've been to my GP and he referred me to a specialist. My anxiety is bad enough that I'm having trouble getting anything done. Got any tips for coping with health anxiety?
@jrc03c the process described in the attached image was extremely helpful for me with health-related anxiety. Lots of my health-related thoughts had no basis in fact because I'm not a doctor nor do I have enough data to be having thoughts about that.
A book I've found helpful is The Upward Spiral - it outlines the various parts of the brain that are part of the anxiety circuit and how to alter them.
I have found the best strategy for me is to engage my prefrontal cortex by doing something productive in the moment of anxiety.
Since my anxiety centers around chest discomfort I remind myself it's not as scary as I think it is then do stretches
