In the 19th century, Western Christians made a copy of the Bible without anti-slavery / anti-oppression passages, which allowed them to preach a "gospel" that encouraged slaves to accept their lot. While today's fundamentalist Christians probably have enough respect for their book not to literally print abridged copies, they nevertheless DON'T respect their book enough to stop screening those ideas out in practice.
