For those of you that use Linux, how do you manage programs that you either had to compile yourself or could only find a precompiled binary/wasn't in your package manager?
I sometimes make a bin/ folder in my home directory and adding it to my $PATH but recently I have started using .local/share/bin
Is there a better way to do this?

@kevin I just put everything in ~/bin and add to my path like you.

@neauoire @metasyn ok so at least it seems I am not doing something weird then haha

@kevin I used to put stuff in /usr/local if it was "stuff that was local to the computer but not special to the user" and somewhere in the home directory for "stuff that is local to the user but not special to anyone else".
