@milofultz aw yeeeaaaaaaaa 🤘🤘
The biggest issue I had with both local dev and my remote server is permissions. Apache wanted to run as root locally for port 80, and my web host has the web user separate from the SFTP user, so I frequently had to chmod or chown something.
Hit me if you get stuck! Can't wait to see your site!
@winduptoy yeah I learned a LOT about Apache over getting this set up hahaha! It's been a long time coming, so I'm glad I got it figured out.
I'm going to try and get something up on a nearly free speech site just for proof of concept and try and write out a tutorial for it, because most of my mistakes were quick fixes and anybody could get this thing set up.
I'm going to try and see how many of my friends and fam I can get to switch off of Squarespace/Wix/Weebly with this thing
@milofultz my favorite NearlyFreeSpeech feature is the "per-alias document root." Enabling that allows you to create a new folder for each domain or subdomain (e.g. /home/public/mysite.com) and you can host hundreds of sites on a single server rather than paying for each site individually. I've been hosting there for 12 years so I think I've hit every little niggle possible with their service. Let me help if you get stuck!
@winduptoy oh shit that's awesome! I could definitely be utilizing this currently for my websites and get away from google domains, hopefully. Thank you!
