Last child-free day off between job so I hiked up to Gaddings Dam for a paddle. Gaddings Dam is now known as 'the highest beach in Britain', it's a 355m high Victorian reservoir saved from being drained by local volunteers. The prevailing South-westerly wind drives sandstone grit to the North-east corner where a little beach has formed - it was a local secret until a bloody newspaper from Manchester published an article about it, now it's busy in summer with drunken city-folk.
