Headed to Burnley today, it's in a similar condition to Rochdale and other deprived northern towns and it got me thinking about that Gibson quote: "The future is already here – it’s just not very evenly distributed". The life in these towns is how everywhere will be very soon, that's the future. The shops that are open consist of a few chain stores, second-hand gadget shops where people sell gear out of desperation, a few bookies and pubs. At least half the shops are vacant.
It also reminded me of a job interview I went to 5+ years ago in some Thames estuary town outside London (name escapes me). As soon as I got off the train I knew I wouldn't even make the interview the next day. It was an incredibly depressing place, still had some hustle and bustle but also had a severe heroin problem. My worry is that decay will spread with the coming inflation, I've been preoccupied with the housing crash when the boomers realise nobody can afford to buy their nest eggs.
Revel in the marvels of the universe. We are a collective of forward-thinking individuals who strive to better ourselves and our surroundings through constant creation. We express ourselves through music, art, games, and writing. We also put great value in play. A warm welcome to any like-minded people who feel these ideals resonate with them.
