#Eclipse Memory Analyzer (MAT) my old friend!

Such a nice tool for tracking down memory leaks in #JVM applications.

Sure, I'd rather not have a leak at all, but it was a lot of fun hunting it down and finding it in an unexpected place! Long time since I last had to.

'maybe' in #French is 'peut-être' - which looks very different, but is strikingly similar when you know 'peut' comes from 'pouvoir', 'may', and 'être' means 'to be'.

My mind was blown when I found out that the #Dutch "misschien" - which looks very different again - is a corruption of the old-Dutch 'môge-zien', from 'het moge zijn', literally 'it may be'!

damn, they're *really* persistent about it: even after confirming it's not a browser issue, that it happens on several machines and linking to https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=email.squarespace.com&latest they keep telling us to clear the cache, and are now telling us to create a video showing the problem.

My partner was an avid fan of the service for years, even wrote articles about it, but that has definitely cooled down by now.

(to be clear I'm not mad at the person(s) providing the support per se: they likely have to work under unreasonable circumstances.

I'm mad at the company though.

Interestingly, customer satisfaction surveys rarely allow you to make that distinction, which I find infuriating as well ;) )

Unfortunately, having experience with trying to provide great support also makes me extra frustrated when I'm not receiving it.

#squarespace just plain doesn't believe us that the certificate at https://email.squarespace.com is misconfigured. We've shared screenshots as well as in-depth analysis including dig/curl/openssl output.

They just repeated their generic suggestions to try in another browser, clear the cache, disable extensions, restart. Ugh!

At $DAYJOB as a software developer, we as a development team are also responsible for responding to customer support issues. We rotate this task weekly and pull each other in as necessary.

I love that, it's great to have a direct feedback loop. It helps our customers are generally smart ;)

In #English there is the expression of something being a "double-edged sword".

In #Dutch we have almost the same expression - "het mes snijdt aan beide kanten".

The meaning is almost opposite, however: the Dutch expression means "this has 2 distinct advantages", like a win-win scenario or killing two birds with one stone. The English expression means "this has both advantages and disadvantages". #linguistics
