I am really glad when people add alt text to images on Mastodon.

My internet is so damn slow, that images never really load (i turn them off anyway), but at least I can get a sense of what it is from the text ^____^.

Keep doing it!! Many ppl benefit from this.

@rek I'm honestly impressed by how detailed some of the alt texts are.

@oblomov Yea! Some of them are rly lovely, too. Love this article about alt text as poetry: (i have it saved, cause i share it so much haha~)

@rek Same! Wish there were summaries for videos too, because I sure don't have bandwidth for those. And often no time either 😃

@yngmar Hell yea, that'd be great. I often just look at the video description haha.. say if someone links me something.

I remember when (HTML without numbers and 33,600 modem era) someone asked me to teach how to make a web site.

My first suggestion was "keep everything on a floppy, so you can see it loading just like your visitors".

Marginally, on a floppy wasn't possible to store many images, so my pupils have to be picky.

Then arrived FrontPage and fucked everything.

@rek yeah! That happens with the internet at my workplace sometimes too. I'm so grateful for alt text

@rek curb-cut effect in action!
Had to be on a limited mobile network for some time, that's when I built "no media previews" thing in Tusky I think

@rek Sometimes I just need that little bit of extra context to figure out what in the heck I'm looking at.

@rek really wish it was possible to edit them in haha. I often forget if I'm posting in a hurry but if I take the media from the app then it's not saved elsewhere and redrafting doesn't seem to catch it reliably.

Should stop posting in a hurry ofc haha
