Button press = orca pattern βœ”οΈ
Now I just need to decide how many buttons and what patterns to bake into each. Oh and of course wire it all up *gulp*

@tendigits I wish there was a way to control Orca through midi. Like change variables with knobs.

This seems like a first step!

@narF that’s in my plans as well! Initial test here: merveilles.town/web/statuses/1
I’m going to setup 6 knobs mapped to 6 variables. And a bunch of buttons to print out presets (including the button vars).

@narF @tendigits Your wish is my command!

You can now send stdin commands to orca πŸ–€ enjoy

@narF @tendigits This can be greatly improved, so I'm sort of looking for ideas, right now it just writes watever character is sent, but we could make it so char bytes < 20 do certain operations like move the cursor?

@neauoire @narF That could be useful. In my test I was just moving the cursor, and typing characters to get the pattern I wanted. Another option would be sending a whole string I suppose.

@neauoire @narF wondering if I can send data from a serial data port into orca. My button controller board is circuitpython based, so maybe this would work. circuitpython.readthedocs.io/e

@tendigits @narF Yeah, uxnemu will listen to stdin.

So you can do something like

pythonscript | uxnemu orca.rom

And the byte value sent from your pythonscript will be written as character values in the grid.

@neauoire @narF hooray! cool I'm going to see if I can pipe in some data from this board.

@neauoire @narF amazing! This might mean a whole different approach for the device I'm making...

@neauoire @tendigits Hmmm I don't know enough about stdin…

What I would like is a way to use, let's say, knobs 1, 2, 3 on a midi controller to control variables 1, 2 ,3 in orca. And then use that to control stuff in my orca patches like change bang frequency of D or the notes being played, etc.

@narF @tendigits You need to translate the midi/osc/usb messages into messages that orca can understand. Do you have something to inspect what sort of midi messages is coming out of your controller? Something like PureData, Processing, Javascript, etc.. will allow you to print that message.

@tendigits hey! I was just working on uxn Orca haha, I found a way to massively improve performance.

@tendigits is this the pi4? What monitor are you using!’v I’m looking forward getting one screen/monitor for my pi4

@sy yup, the screen is a Pimoroni HDMI 10" IPS. I set the resolution low (pixel doubling) for my old eyes. So far I like it.
If you get one, be careful with the ribbon connector, I broke mine and have to do weird hacky things to maintain the display signal.
