The other night, I was lucky enough to witness a full-ish sky of stars (from a Mediterranean ferry). It was so breathtaking that I felt a deep sadness about the way widespread light pollution has deprived most of us of this sight

@rek @neauoire I figured you two must have seen the stars more than most, so I was happy to see you talking about them in the July 16 section of “Busy Doing Nothing”

@trellick @neauoire We couldn't see the sky well on our last trip because of the constant bad weather, but in the south pacific the sky was free of clouds most days, and we could see everything with such clarity, esp on moonless nights :>.

@trellick I still remember a night 25 years ago down in Somerset with my oldest school friend, laying on our backs at a village cricket green staring up at the sky, a sparkling blanket with occasional shooting stars. It's so sad that's something I've only witnessed a few times, our ancestors would have seen it every night.
