as cool as this is, this is *not* a free technology, its a $500 per month API that developers have to implement, which can only be justified by putting things behind a paywall, so fuck this!!
its also patented, so nobody can make an open source version! https://twitter.com/WhatTheADHD/status/1527617004336820228
"In the words of one former sysop, the BBS was the original cyberspace. The stories from this era remind us that many different internets have already existed. An internet after social media is still possible; the internet of today can still become something better, more just, equitable, and inclusive—a future worth fighting for."

I was there, and I agree.

The very passive position embodied by the exhortation to "just vote" is very frustrating, given how disappointing our elected representatives often are. I think the alternative is not to try to be the perfect activist who is involved in everything and convinced of their individual ability to change the world. I think it is to identify a few local people who are are making positive change happen in your community, and try to make a small contribution alongside them.
#industrialheritage #historyofdesign #primaryforms I got to go in the Catcliffe Cone today. This is their first open day - apparently it's the oldest #glass kiln in Europe to still be standing. Many rumours surround it, none can be substantiated. Were prisoners of war once kept here? Was the #stone at the base from the same quarry that supplied Westminster Palace? Why can nobody find any of the glass that was made here?
There are many forms of etiquette on this site that differ from the other places we've all been.
One thing that HAS NOT taken off, for some reason, is messaging a person before shooting them a follow request.
I used to have that on my bio back in the day and hardly anyone did it.
If you shoot someone a request, you should let them know why or ask first at this point. With the way this place is

"Feminist memory can become a counter-institutional project; we have to find ways of creating paths for others to follow, to leave traces in places. We refuse to let a refusal disappear. You hold on by passing a refusal on." https://feministkilljoys.com/2018/06/28/refusal-resignation-and-complaint/

A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
